Overview

Scroll is a free Bible reading app designed to get out of your way and let you focus on the text. We believe your reading life is your own. We don't track you, we don't show you ads, and we don't sell your data. This policy explains exactly what happens with your information when you use the app.

Data Stored on Your Device

Your data lives on your device first and foremost. The full Bible text (World English Bible translation) is bundled with the app. Your reading position, highlights, bookmarks, notes, memory verses, and settings are saved to a local database.

If you have iCloud sync enabled, a copy of this data is also stored in your private iCloud account to keep your devices in sync (see iCloud Sync below). Scroll has no account creation or sign-in — you never create a username, password, or profile. iCloud sync uses the Apple ID already on your device, but that's managed entirely by Apple. We don't operate servers that store your personal data.

iCloud Sync

Scroll offers optional iCloud sync to keep your data in sync across your Apple devices. When enabled, your highlights, bookmarks, notes, memory verses, reading position, and settings are stored in your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit.

This data is stored in your personal iCloud storage, not on our servers. Only you can access it — we cannot see, read, or retrieve your synced data. Apple manages the encryption and storage.

iCloud sync is enabled by default but can be turned off at any time in Settings. You can also delete all synced data from iCloud directly within the app. When sync is off, your data stays on your device only.

AI Study Features

Scroll includes optional AI-powered study tools and note-writing assistance. When you explicitly use these features, the relevant verse text or note content is sent to your configured AI provider (such as OpenAI) for processing. This only happens when you choose to use the feature — it never runs in the background or without your knowledge.

The data sent is limited to what's needed to generate a response, such as verse text or the content of a note you're working on.

Third-Party Services

Scroll communicates with two types of third-party services:

1. Apple iCloud (CloudKit) — for optional cross-device sync of your reading data. This is stored in your private iCloud account.

2. AI providers (such as OpenAI) — only when you explicitly use the AI study features.

No data is shared with any other third party for any reason.

Analytics

Scroll does not include any third-party analytics SDKs or tracking tools. We don't collect usage data or device information.

Apple may provide us with basic crash reports and app analytics through App Store Connect if you've opted in to share analytics with developers in your device settings. This is managed entirely by Apple. If you submit feedback through the app, that message is sent to us directly.

Children's Privacy

Scroll does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app has no account creation, no tracking, and no data collection. iCloud sync, if enabled, stores data in the user's own Apple account and is governed by Apple's privacy policies.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We're committed to keeping things simple and transparent.
